A Welcome Return to Bangor Town Regatta this Summer

23rd – 26th June 2022

Northern Ireland’s premier keel boat regatta will be returning to the shores of Belfast Lough on
23rd – 26th June 2022. Based out of Bangor Marina and Royal Ulster Yacht Club, the event
offers superb yacht racing for some 75 racing yachts. Around 600 competitors from Northern
Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Mann will be competing over the 4 days
for several prestigious trophies.

Chairman of the event, Gavin Watson, was delighted to recently make the announcement of
headline sponsor of IQ&Co. “We are delighted to team up with IQ&Co, particularly as they were
launched in Bangor in 1998 and still have a prominent office in the town centre. Their fresh
approach and positive credibility matched the ethos of Bangor Town Regatta and all that both
teams stand for.”

Commenting on their support of Bangor Town Regatta, IQ&Co’s Managing Director Tanya
Martin said, “as a company, being involved in this local event in an area that is very close to our
hearts and alongside a club with such a rich sailing heritage is a true pleasure and we look
forward to supporting the event and the competitors”.

On the water, racing will be managed by Con Murphy, an internationally known sailor and race
officer. His long association with the world of sailing competitions includes Race Officer at the
2016 Rio Olympics. Mr Murphy is “looking forward to Bangor Week – we’ve done many sailing
events on Belfast Lough over the years and have happy memories.”

In the background, advising the Bangor Town Regatta Committee is Bill O’Hara OBE OLY. As a
Bangor man he has many proud achievements, including competing in the 1984 Summer
Olympics in Los Angeles and the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He has attended eight
Olympic Games.

The regatta will see a host of highly competitive local yachts racing head-to-head, including Final
Call owned by John Minnis, Hijacker owned by Stuart Cranston of Strangford, and Game
Changer owned by Shaun Douglas.
