Dog-friendly Belfast

Is Belfast dog-friendly? Yes, you bet it is! Belfast is surrounded by lush green spaces, forests and urban parks to delight the little wet noses of our furry friends. Daily walks, Sunday adventures and scavenger hunts on the coastal paths provide lots of fun and energy-burning opportunity for humans and dogs alike – but what else is on offer to indulge our fur babies in an extra special experience?

With a plethora of new businesses catering for pet lovers and pampered pooches, Belfast has it all going on. Check out a few of our favourites below.

Doggie Play

Based in Bloomfield Commercial Centre, Belfast – Doggie Play offers a playtime experience for dogs of all sizes and breeds. With spacious purpose-built play areas, the facility enables dogs to explore, socialise and have fun even on wet miserable days.

Trained and passionate staff keep a close eye on the dogs while owners are invited to relax with a brew, catch up with friends or get some work done in the on-site Coffee Dock. Doggie Play is a relatively new local business that is fast expanding – and will soon offer an onsite dog grooming service.

Pet-friendly coffee shops

There are many pet-friendly coffee shops in Belfast – but our favourite stops include Jack’s Coffee Bar at the Eastside Visitor Centre on the Newtownards Road and their sister cafe, the Lampost Cafe. Both establishments provide a delicious selection of food and drinks for customers to enjoy, while dogs can savour the highly nutritious and mineral-rich Frozzy’s frozen yoghurt for dogs.

Why are dog’s made to feel so welcome at Jack’s Coffee Bar? This is an interesting story! The cafe is located in the bustling CS Lewis Square. A little known fact is that as a child, CS Lewis adopted the name Jacksie after his dog of the same name was killed by a car. At first, he only answered to the name Jacksie, however in later life, he accepted the name ‘Jack’. Jack’s Coffee Bar brings that story to life.
