The Strand Arts Centre

The Strand Arts Centre has been at the centre of East Belfast community life since 1935. Once known as ‘The Strand Picture House’, the centre welcomes 50,000 customers through the doors annually to enjoy a range of new releases, classical and cultural films, as well as special event screenings.

Since becoming an arts centre in 2013, the Strand has hosted numerous unique live theatre and musical events including jaw-dropping performances by Van Morrison and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The EastSide Arts Festival, CS Lewis Festival, Open House Festival, Moving on Music, Belfast International Arts Festival and Belfast Children’s Festival all use the Strand to host programme throughout the year.

Memorable Moments at The Strand

  • 20-year anniversary screening of Interview with a Vampire – hosted by Oscar winner, Neil Jordan.
  • Premier of inspirational Belfast film, Good Vibrations. The film centred on the life of local legend and record label boss, Terri Hooley. Guests attending the premier including Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and Nathan Connolly.
  • A Q&A session hosted by Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Klaus before the screening of The Unbelievers.
