Top Places to Eat in Northern Ireland
Flannels, Victoria Square, Belfast
Right in the heart of the City Centre, the Flannels Café on the 2nd floor of Frasers in Victoria Square, is the perfect spot for a sophisticated lunch, glass of wine, or coffee and patisserie.
We chose a couple of the stunningly good Deli Boards to share; the Mezze Platter with lots of delicious Mediterranean vegetarian nibbles, & the “Seacuterie” with smoked salmon, mackerel pâté, prawns in garlic butter & samphire, with Guinness wheaten bread, & a creamy dill and horseradish sauce.
All washed down with a chilled Spanish Rosé, this was a delightful way to relax after some Christmas shopping.
No.36 Belmont Road, Belfast
As Yuletide approaches, many of our favourite restaurants present us with their Christmas specials & in No. 36 Belmont Rd they serve the most delicious festive Yorkshire Pudding Wraps. We remembered these fondly from visits in previous years, and we were so looking forward to the veggie version. But what’s this? No mention of it on the menu! Bah, humbug, we thought. But wait!
A little Christmas miracle was underway. Seeing the disappointment on our faces, the kitchen elves in No. 36 created some culinary magic, & we were presented with a fabulous Yorkshire Pudding crammed with stuffing, veggie burger, Brie, & cranberry sauce, with a rocket & Parmesan salad & coleslaw! Simply divine.
Shout of the Week
Hotties Chocolate
Hotties Chocolate, a new company based in Northern Ireland, is on a mission to make the world’s best hot chocolate.
Hotties Chocolate isn’t just a delicious hot drink, but a way of connecting with friends & family, a treat on a random weeknight, or just a tasty alternative to tea or coffee. It would also make a thoughtful Christmas gift for someone special who deserves a little pampering.
The company uses ethically sourced cocoa beans, & the real chocolate makes the drinks creamy, rich & luxurious. Hotties come in a variety of different flavours, from Milk Chocolate to S’mores, & Salted Caramel to vegan Dark Orange. And why not be a little bit naughty & make your Hottie boozy? We added a shot of rum to the Dark Orange Hottie. Delicious! But let’s hope the Elf on the Shelf doesn’t report us to “you know who”!
