Top Places to Eat in Belfast

Taylor and Clay

Award-winning restaurant Taylor & Clay boasts an open kitchen built around a bespoke Asador wood-fired grill. Head chef Saul O’Reilly’s talented team cook the best local meat, seafood and vegetables over roaring flames, delivering delicious char-grilled flavours. They also have a carefully curated collection of world wines, inspired by countries with grill cooking at their culinary core.

We recently dined there to catch up with family, and we were all impressed by the delicious food, excellent drinks, and attentive friendly service. 

To start, we had the Toons Bridge Mozzarella with harissa, peach & black rice, the Kilkeel Crab with puffed rice, coconut, coriander & dill, the Smoky Tiger Prawns fried in cumin & garlic with flatbread, and the Chargrilled Lamb Kebab with raita & pickled squash.       

As Taylor and Clay are serious about their beef, one of our party couldn’t resist the Fillet Steak served with fries, greens and a choice of sauce. Not only that, but The Big Sunday Roast with RoaLisdergan flax fed rump of beef, Yorkshire pudding, duck fat roast potatoes, tender stem broccoli, glazed carrots and gravy is terrific value for money.


The Free Range Irish Chicken came with crispy garlic and lemon potatoes, and the Fish Of The Day was a beautifully grilled whole Sea Bream served on the bone. We also tried one of the vegan mains, a spicy wild Mushroom And Chipotle Filé Gumbo with smoked corn, red beans and rice. 

We then retired to the Bullitt’s fantastic cocktail bar Rattlebag for a nightcap or two! A great way to finish the evening of fine food, drink and conversation. 

Havana Grill, Dublin Road, Belfast

We were delighted to have been asked to the soft launch opening night of Havana Grill, on Dublin Road.

The menu is extensive with something to suit all tastes, from traditional hot breakfasts, to a “Build Your Lunch” selection. There is an incredible variety of Burgers, Dogs, Ribs & Wings, Steaks, Cubanos, Salads, Loaded Fries-the list goes on and on. There’s also a soon-to-be-revealed Vegan/Vegetarian menu for those looking for meat-free options. 

A “Chef’s Menu” is also available, and from this, we chose the Salt & Pepper Squid with Pickled Veg & Sriracha Mayo, and the Stuffed Breaded Mushrooms as our starters. The Squid was tender and well-seasoned, and the Mushrooms, served with a rocket & red onion salad, had a creamy, cheesy filling and a golden, crunchy, crumb coating.


The main courses were also delicious; the Pan-Fried Sea Bass had a perfectly crispy skin and was accompanied by Baby Boiled Potatoes, Spinach & Sunblush Tomato Hash, and a drizzle of fresh Pesto, and the Mexican Bean Burger with Mozzarella, Pepper Relish, and Sweet Potato Fries had a subtle chilli heat. 

Food and drink will be available from next week from 9am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

We sampled a couple of the tasty veggie lunch options-the Oriental Noodle Bowl with lots of crispy vegetables and Asian herbs and spices, and the Pesto Pasta Bowl fragrant with fresh basil and sprinkled with feta, tomatoes, and black olives. The Honey Roasted Root Veg Soup is a hearty winter warmer, the Cave Pots and Oat Pots, which come in a variety of flavour combinations, are an ideal instant breakfast straight from the fridge, and the Protein Brownies and Cave Bars would make a healthy, nutritious snack for any time of the day.
