Top Places to Eat in Belfast
Bow Bells, Conlig
We had previously visited Bow Bells in Donaghadee and loved the effective mixture of delicatessen products, gifts & treats in this County Down eatery. So when we heard that the team was opening a new Tea Room in Conlig, we couldn’t wait to try it. The menu really does have something for everyone, from a traybake or scone to a more substantial meal. We decided to try a couple of meat-free options.
The Butternut Squash & Chilli Risotto was autumnal comfort food at its best, and the Vegan Fry had delicious “meaty” sausages, crispy kale, field mushrooms, potato & soda bread, tomatoes, vegan black pudding, & homemade baked beans. A generous veggie gut-buster! However, do ensure you leave room for something sweet, as it would be a travesty to miss out on Bow Bells’ famous cakes, desserts & tempting treats.
Biddys Bistro
An invitation to visit Biddys arrived just before Hallowe’en, & so we cycled across town on an autumnal afternoon to sample their terrific lunch menu an absolute steal at two courses for £10.95. Our starters included vegetable soup- a homemade broth, deliciously light, punching out traditional flavours in spades. The main of Chicken Curry was served with rice surrounded by a Thai red curry, spiced with fresh chilli. Delicious and great value. We loved the Friday Special: a Cod Supper with golden batter, mushy peas, tartare sauce, & fluffy-centred chips doused with salt & vinegar. The new Pizza Lounge menu is also available & we were most impressed with the authentically Italian flavours & great selection of toppings. A return visit is definitely on the cards.
