Top Places to Eat in Belfast

44 Hill St

The terrific tapas at 44 Hill Street, one of our favourite spots in the Cathedral Quarter, is a celebration of the flavours of the Mediterranean, using local products from independent producers in a selection of modern small plates, ideal to share with friends and family.

The history of the building in which this vibrant restaurant is housed ranges from a bonded warehouse to a butter merchants, and this is evident in the industrialised interior, from the exposed brickwork to the metal beams dating back to the last century. There is also a wonderful new outdoor space for al fresco style dining.

We ordered a selection of tapas to share, and all of them were tasty, authentic, and great value for money. We especially enjoyed the Crispy Goat’s Cheese Fritters with Lavender & Honey, The Crispy Pork Belly Bites with Apple Compote, the Deep Fried Brie with Fruit Chutney, the minty vegan Tabbouleh, the Calamari with Garlic Mayo, and the Mini Fishcakes with Tartare Sauce.

Six by Nico

Recently, we were whisked off to The Amalfi Coast, culinarily speaking, by “Six By Nico”. Unfortunately, we were unable to witness the awe-inspiring scenery, vibrant surroundings, beautiful beaches, and soaring mountains first hand, but we were presented with the freshest of flavours from Italy on six perfect plates.
We loved the Creamy Burrata with Heirloom Tomato, Green Olive, Salted Lemon & Lovage, and the Spaghetti Vongole, Squid Ink Spaghetti, with Clams, Mussels, Chilli, Garlic, & a Shellfish Espuma which was an absolutely outstanding “al dente” pasta dish.

The Fillet Of Sea Bass, with Tapenade, Roasted Pepper, Courgette & Basil Puree, Braised Fennel, & Lovage Dressing was fresh seafood loveliness, and the vegetarian alternative of Courgette Flower, With Ricotta, Tapenade, Roasted Pepper, & Braised Fennel was a celebration of Italian flavours.

To finish, the Delizia Al Limone, with Lemon Mousseline, Almond Sponge, Caramelised White Chocolate, Yoghurt, & Meringue was a tangy treat with just the right balance of nuttiness.

Product of the Week

The Little Magic Ball Company

Luxury landed on our doorstep, courtesy of Laura, who promised us “little balls of heaven”, and much to our delight, that’s precisely what we got.

Perfectly packaged in decadent looking gift boxes-ideal for that special occasion, or just for a bit of pampering-these chocolate spheres are miniature works of art. They come in a variety of flavours, which are unleashed when hot milk is poured on top. They dissolve dramatically, revealing the secret ingredients secreted within. A quick stir, and you’ll be ready for some seriously seductive hot chocolate like no other.

And just to make it even more sinfully naughty, a glug of your favourite tipple makes this indulgent treat an “adults only” experience! We couldn’t resist pouring some Stoli Chocolat Razberi Vodka onto the pink and white chocolate ball, and the Maltesers ball with its glittering gold leaf was complemented by a generous measure of Copeland’s Smugglers Reserve Rum. Fabulous!
