Ginza Kitchen

We were looking for a special spot to celebrate a friend’s “landmark” birthday, and could think of no better venue than Lisburn Road’s wonderful Ginza Kitchen. As soon as we were seated, Ben arrived at our table with glasses of fizz in hand to welcome us back. And as for the food, Ginza Kitchen never disappoints.

We started with an appetiser of a bowl of salty Edamame Beans, and the Ginza Moriawase-a selection of beautifully fresh sashimi, sushi rolls, and nigiri, artistically displayed and perfect for sharing.

To follow, we had the Salmon Tama Donburi: a Japanese rice bowl topped with salmon tempura, steamed vegetables, and an oozing fried egg, accompanied by a candied sweet potato salad. We also loved the Mix Seafood Teriyaki Teppan which arrived sizzling on a hot Japanese grill dish with steamed rice, and the Grilled Tofu Curry Soba: chunks of bean curd on a bed of egg noodles with pak choi, mangetout, bean sprouts, coriander and sesame.

Ginza Kitchen is an absolute gem, which we honestly couldn’t recommend highly enough. If you haven’t tried it yet, get booked in. We guarantee you’ll love it too.

Buba

Seated outside Buba on a glorious summer’s evening, we really could have been anywhere; an Italian terraza perhaps, or a Spanish plaza? But the scent of the wonderfully fragrant herbs and spices wafting from the kitchen instantly transported us to the Eastern Mediterranean. And when the food arrived, we remembered why Buba is one of our go-to eateries in the Cathedral Quarter.

Many of our old favourites are still on the menu; crunchy, squeaky Halloumi Fries smothered in harissa and Buba’s creamy house sauce, Crispy Falafels with a refreshing pickled cucumber salad, tahini and chilli jam, and the sweetly savoury Baklava Stuffed Dates.

We followed this up with a selection from the grill; Ground Lamb Koftè, Aleppo Pepper Prawn Kebab, and the Chicken Ras El Hanout Skewer, all served with house pickles, slaw, flatbreads and sauces, and a flaky Baked Cod on crushed potatoes with gremolata.

For dessert, we had the sticky, pistachio-rich Baklava with cream, and a couple of Espresso Martinis!

Buba is the perfect venue for great al fresco dining, right in the heart of the city centre.
