Ocho in the York Inn, Portstewart, offers delicious Mediterranean-style sharing plates. The seafood is outstanding; golden Monkfish Scampi with Patatas Fritas, Crispy Fried Whitebait with pimiento salad & aioli, & a special of Tandoori Sea Bream with toasted almonds, cauliflower & baby turnips in a creamy velouté. There are lots of meat-free options too; the Vegan Paella is a fragrant saffron-rich dish, & the Aubergine “Three Ways” is an outstanding Vegetarian choice.
There are plenty of authentically traditional Spanish favourites on the menu, such as Patatas Bravas & Padron Peppers, & Ocho also provides some brilliantly inventive twists; we couldn’t get enough of the Okonomiyali Fries with Japanese mayo, tonkatsu sauce, bonito & black sesame seeds. And the Creamy Ricotta with tomato, black garlic pearls, & Mallorcan toast is another taste sensation.
Suitor and Co
On Holywood’s High Street, Suitor & Co has become one of the go-to coffee shops in the town. The coffee itself is excellent, and bags of Suitor’s 11:11 Liquid Gold are available to buy to take away. There are also some terrific craft teas, kombucha on tap, & Suitor’s own sparkling peachy green tea, #GGG. And as for the food? We had the Veg Cure; crunchy sourdough topped with smashed avocado, hash browns, perfectly poached eggs, & salsa roja, accompanied by halloumi. Another cracking vegetarian option is the Veg Press; a colossal toastie crammed with herby braised leeks & caramelised onions, with melted, fior de latte. The wide selection of cakes & bakes is mouthwatering, so do make sure you leave room for some sweet treats or try one of the tempting daily specials on offer.
Inch’s Cider
Launching this month, Inch’s is the new fresher, greener and juicier cider refreshment. The blend is also vegan friendly & gluten-free & is set to bring some vibrancy back to the mainstream apple cider market with its exceptional lightly sparkling taste. It uses no artificial colours or sweeteners yet it is sure to deliver lip-smacking refreshment with its perfect balance between sweet and dry, on top of its delightfully fresh apple aroma.
