Top Places to Eat in Northern Ireland
Edo, Belfast
EDŌ, a tapas-style restaurant in the heart of the City, is ideal for those wanting to enjoy a range of taste experiences through a sharing themed menu. “Para Picar”, we chose somePimientos de Padrón, & “Banderillas”-little anchovy & olive flavour-bombs. From the “Verduras” section we loved the Confit Squash, with Hazelnut & PX Vinegar Caramel, & the Braised Jerusalem Artichokes, with Cep Cream & Pickled Mushroom. The Fried Aubergines with Sesame & Truffle Honey was one of our favourite dishes on the menu.
For Dessert, we enjoyed the Caribe Milk Chocolate with Praline & Lime, which was the perfect way to finish the meal.
Sagart, Belfast
One of our Christmas Eve traditions is to spend a happy hour or two in this wonderful little bar, enjoying a glass of fizz accompanied by top-notch nibbles. The small plates are simple and delicious: the gorgeously plump scallops with black pudding bonbons, & fresh smoked salmon on wheaten are two dishes we always order. We also enjoyed a fragrant prawn and haddock curry to share, & the cheeseboard, with many local & continental choices, is an absolute must. Sagart will be taking a break over the next few weeks for a well-earned rest & some “re-invention”. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
Shout of the Week
Mrs Smyth’s Preserves
We love to keep a jar of chutney or two in the store cupboard, an essential element of any good cheese board, & Mrs Smyth’s locally produced jams, ferments, & chutneys are really terrific, & available online or at many farmer’s markets. We particularly like the Tomato & Chilli chutney & the Apple & Chilli Jelly: both wonderful with mature crumbly cheddar, & the Kimchi: Korean style fermented vegetables which are perfect for naturally adding healthy probiotics to your diet (a vegan version is also available.)
